INSIGNIA TO LEAVE OCEANIA CRUISES’ FLEET

Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer at Oceania Cruises, has informed travel professionals that the cruise line’s cherished Insignia will depart the fleet in late 2027.

“While Insignia was our second ship, she was a first in so many ways. She was the first cruise ship christened in Monte Carlo. She was the first of our ships to host an Oceania Club Reunion Cruise. And she was our first ship to ever embark on a six-month around the world voyage.”

“While we are sad to see Insignia depart the fleet, we have a new generation of ships on the horizon. The new Allura, sister ship to the critically acclaimed Vista, arrives this summer, and just about the time Insignia sails her grand finale voyage, the first of our highly anticipated “Quattro” ships will sail her maiden voyage in the summer of 2027.”

The new ships will be the most spacious, amenity-rich Oceania Cruises ships to date. Further details on the new class of ships will be revealed later this year.

About Insignia

Originally launched in 1998 as the MS R One for Renaissance Cruises, Insignia was acquired by Oceania Cruises in 2004 and has undergone several refurbishments, including a significant overhaul in December 2018 as part of the OceaniaNEXT program.

With a length of 594 feet and a gross tonnage of 30,277, Insignia accommodates 670 passengers in a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. The ship has a crew of approximately 372, ensuring attentive and personalized service throughout the journey. Dining is a highlight, with open-seating arrangements across the ship’s complimentary restaurants, including the Grand Dining Room, the Terrace Café, and Waves Grill. Specialty restaurants include Polo Grill, a classic steakhouse, and Toscana, the Italian restaurant. Insignia also boasts multiple bars including Baristas, a delightful coffee bar serving complimentary espressos, cappuccinos and lattes; Martinis, serving numerous incarnations of the famous cocktail; Waves Bar, serving cocktails, beers and wines poolside; and Horizons, an elegant observation lounge featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and a country club casual ambiance. The lounge is the perfect spot for some tranquil reading and afternoon tea during the day. At night Horizons transforms into a sophisticated evening venue with music and dancing.

The Aquamar Spa, provides guests with rejuvenating treatments and wellness experiences. The Styling Salon offers luxury hair products, deluxe services, and a specialty color bar. The full-service salon also offers manicures, pedicures, brow shaping, and more. All Concierge level guests and suite guests enjoy free and unlimited access to the Spa Terrace, a beautiful area overlooking the bow of the ship. Guests can stay fit at sea thanks to the ship’s state-of-the-art fitness center, which features the latest exercise equipment and complimentary fitness classes such as yoga, Pilates and stretching. Insignia’s Pool Deck offers a large pool and two whirlpool spas, making it the perfect place to relax, enjoy a refreshing swim or enjoy a cocktail on the comfortable sun beds.

Entertainment options are designed to keep guests engaged and entertained throughout their voyage. The ship features world-class music performances, and production shows in the Lounge, the center of nightly entertainment onboard. The small yet vibrant Monte Carlo-style casino offers a fun and exciting range of ways to play, from card and table games to slot machines. Additionally, guests can partake in enrichment activities such as guest lectures, cooking demonstrations, and trivia sessions.

The English-style Library offers over 2,000 books and periodicals ranging from destination guides to best-selling mysteries and classic literature. The two stylish boutiques onboard feature a tastefully curated selection of items ranging from fine jewelry to designer casual wear.

Though Insignia is a smaller ship by modern standards, it makes up for its size with its attention to detail and service. It has become well-known for its longer, more immersive voyages, including prestigious World Cruises that span several months, allowing guests to explore distant corners of the world.

Despite facing challenges, including a tragic engine-room fire in 2014 that led to the loss of three crew members, Insignia was repaired and returned to service in 2015. The ship continues to be a favorite among luxury cruisers and remains an iconic member of the Oceania fleet.

Looking ahead, Crescent Seas has acquired Insignia, with plans to integrate the ship into their fleet by the end of 2027, ensuring the legacy of this elegant vessel will continue for years to come. Whether embarking on a long-haul World Cruise or a shorter regional itinerary, Insignia offers a truly exceptional cruise experience, combining luxury, comfort, and adventure in one unforgettable package.

Details of the first half of Insignia’s 2027 Farewell Tour of The Caribbean, South America, and Europe will open for sale on April 9, 2025. The second half of her final Oceania Cruises itineraries sailing in Summer and Autumn 2027, will be published and open for sale in September 2025.
