CATHERINE POWELL JOINS AMAWATERWAYS AS NEW PRESIDENT

Catherine Powell, a distinguished business leader with an impressive track record in the entertainment, hospitality, and travel industries, has joined AmaWaterways as president. Powell, who most recently served as global head of hosting at Airbnb, will work alongside co-founders Rudi Schreiner and Kristin Karst. Schreiner, currently president, transitions to the role of CEO, while Karst will steps down as executive vice president to take on the position of chief brand ambassador, continuing her involvement as co-owner and co-founder.

Powell’s appointment marks a strategic expansion of AmaWaterways’ executive team, reflecting the company’s commitment to long-term stability and excellence in the luxury river cruise industry. With over 15 years of experience at The Walt Disney Company, including leadership roles as president of Disney Parks Western Region and president of Disneyland Paris, Powell brings a wealth of expertise in driving growth, innovation, and transformative strategies. At Airbnb, she oversaw a global community of more than five million hosts, further solidifying her reputation as a visionary leader.

In her new role, Powell will report directly to Schreiner, ensuring a collaborative approach to leadership and continuity in the company’s strategic direction. Schreiner praised Powell’s vision, stating that it “aligns perfectly with our ethos of exceptional guest experiences and innovation.” He expressed confidence that her leadership would propel AmaWaterways to new heights, exploring opportunities in the luxury river cruise market while staying true to the company’s core values.

Karst, who has been instrumental in shaping AmaWaterways since its founding in 2002 alongside Schreiner and the late Jimmy Murphy, expressed enthusiasm for her new role as chief brand ambassador. She emphasized her commitment to strengthening relationships with travel trade partners and fostering international awareness. “Together, we will continue building on the foundation of trust and excellence that AmaWaterways is known for,” Karst said.

Powell, equally enthusiastic, highlighted the alignment between her values and AmaWaterways’ commitment to exceptional guest experiences, innovation, and sustainability. “I am thrilled and honored to join AmaWaterways as its new president,” she said. “Having spent my career in entertainment and hospitality, I’m excited to bring my passion for creating unforgettable moments to the world of luxury river cruising.”

With a fleet of nearly 30 ships operating across Europe, Egypt, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Colombia, AmaWaterways is poised for a new era of growth under Powell’s leadership, guided by the enduring legacy of its founders and a shared vision for the future.
