Seven people, out of the approximately 1,400 crew members confined on board Celebrity Apex have tested positive for Covid-19.
The ARS, Agence Régionale de Santé (regional health agency) des Pays-de-la-Loire, has announced seven people aboard Celebrity Apex have tested positive for Covid-19.
The seven are among the 1,407 crew members from 67 different nationalities who boarded Celebrity Apex two weeks ago. Though the crew was put in confinement in anticipation of the ships delivery, there was a certain festive atmosphere on board as illustrated by a video posted on social media from aboard the ship.
For now the people who have tested positive are to remain on board and measures are taken to prevent the virus from spreading through the air conditioning. According to the agency a “landing operation for these people to organize their return to their country of origin” is being planned as containment situations should not be left for too long at the risk of increasing the risk of viral transmission. At the moment there is no set date or time for the transfer of the affected crew members.
The 306-meter long Celebrity Apex can accommodate 2,900 passengers and some 1,400 crew members. The vessel was to be delivered to Celebrity Cruises last Friday, but remained docked in Saint-Nazaire following the detection of cases of Covid-19.
