Mein Schiff’s new number 1 marks the beginning of a new generation of cruise ships in Germany. With a length of about 315 meters, Mein Schiff 1 is 20 meters longer and one deck higher than TUI Cruises‘ other ships.
The Mein Schiff 1 shines bright like a diamond. In fact, the ship actually features a diamond-shaped 35m wide steel and glass construction at the stern of the ship that creates a wonderfully open space – right above the propellers.
The redesigned “Große Freiheit” spans two decks at the back of the ship and is home to the Mein Schiff classic Surf & Turf steakhouse, two new specialty restaurants and the Diamant Bar. The new host of the “Große Freiheit”, and responsible for the musical entertainment, is a humanoid DJ robot called DJ Rob. A marvel of technology, his movement and lighting design responds to the music, and with 15 movable axes, a music recognition system, camera and laser sensor technology and an unmistakable design, he is guaranteed to not only fascinate music enthusiasts.
With a generous passenger-space ratio, The new Mein Schiff 1 offers plenty of space for well-being for almost 2,900 guests. With “Comfort on Board” as the ship’s motto, guests have a wide choice between a variety of cabins as well as restaurants, bistros, bars and lounges.
Guests with special needs will find a total of 38 suites available on the new Mein Schiff 1. All suites have been designed by internationally acclaimed designer Patricia Urquiola and are in a special location at the bow or stern of the Decks 6-10.
Suites and Junior Suites guests have access to Deck 14, which has an enlarged X-Lounge. In addition, the suite guests in the stern area of Deck 6 can use another sundeck with panoramic sea views. The exclusive outdoor area is equipped with self-service stations for small refreshments and outdoor showers.
The new Mein Schiff 1 is a true sports and wellness ship: in addition to the proven 25-meter outdoor pool and lagoon, the sports area offers even more options than before. For the first time, the fitness area is right at the top of deck 15, allowing sports enthousiasts to train in a spacious atmoshpere with a 360° view of the ocean. Among other things, the 438-meter long jogging track is almost twice as long on the Mein Schiff fleet as ever, has a gradient of up to 6.7 percent and glistens in the dark thanks to the integrated fluorescent elements.
The sports area has been redesigned and equipped with a climbing wall and a large extendable screen for cinema events and football matches. Fully covered and closed, the area is versatile and usable in all weathers.
Next year TUI Cruises will continue the expansion with the new Mein Schiff 2 and in 2023 Mein Schiff 7 will be added to the fleet. The current Mein Schiff 2, originally scheduled to be transferred to Marella Cruises, will remain in the Mein Schiff fleet until 2022 as Mein Schiff Hertz.
The new Mein Schiff 1 will be christened on May 11 by beach volleyball Olympic champions Kira Walkenhorst and Laura Ludwig as part of Hamburg harbor’s 829th birthday celebrations.
