Apollo Hotel Papendrecht is just a short drive from the Kinderdijk World Heritage grounds and the vibrant sights and sounds of Rotterdam city centre.
Last weekend we intended to go and explore the sights and sounds of the Rotterdam area. The plan was to hire a bike and ride to Kinderdijk one day, and take the watertaxi to Rotterdam the next day. Unfortunately the weather decided otherwise…
We booked a room at Apollo Hotel Papendrecht, part of Apollo Hotels and Resorts, which is located about 20km from Rotterdam and 9km from Kinderdijk as base for our trip.
The hotel offers 72 twin rooms, 8 Clubrooms and 5 Suites. Apollo hotel Papendrecht also offers accommodation in the form of 6 appartments, though these require a minimum stay of 7 nights.
According to the hotel’s website “The spacious rooms have a luxury bathroom with bath or shower, toilet and hairdryer. In the rooms you will find a telephone, mini bar, sitting area, desk, laptop safe and coffee- and tea facilities.” The rooms have individual air-conditioning. Wireless internet, as well as parking, is offered free of charge.
We stayed in room 315, one of the standard Twin Rooms. Upon entering the room we found sufficient storage space on the left hand side.
The spacious bathroom, on the right hand side, is closed off by a frosted glass door. Bathroom amenities come in the form of a wall mounted tube of handsoap and a 2-in-1 shampoo/shower gel. Unfortunately, like often with this type of dispenser, the shampoo/shower gel was nearly empty when we arrived.
Our room had a modern and well-thought-out design. The wooden floor and panelling gave it a warm feeling. The large painting behind the bed adds that extra touch of design while the wallpaper gave the room elegance.
The breakfast was served in Restaurant ‘Chef’s! Food & Drinks’. Squeezing your own orange juice might get quite messy, trust me, but it is guaranteed fresh and pure!
Looking back staying at Apollo Hotel Papendrecht was a wonderful decision. Because the weather forced us to change our plans we ended up spending more time in our room than intended, and turned our stay into a lazy and relaxing weekend. We spent some time shopping in the nearby shopping area and walking along the waterside, just to recharge our batteries. We’ll definitely be coming back next time we want to try and visit Kinderdijk…
