“Inspired by nature”: the Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ philosophy for the new expedition ships, HANSEATIC nature, HANSEATIC inspiration and HANSEATIC spirit, is reflected in the spa and fitness areas. Offering treatments using natural cosmetics and sporting facilities with a sea view, the focus on the wellness deck is on empathy with nature.
OCEAN SPA uses exclusively natural cosmetics
The extensive OCEAN SPA covers an area of 235 m2 (2,530 ft2) on Deck 8. The treatment rooms have been constructed and designed with nature as the source of inspiration – in many details, the theme of unspoilt landscapes is reflected in the colours, tones and shapes.
Floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor area make relaxing in the Finnish sauna a very special experience. There is also a steam sauna, hydrotherapy shower and ice fountain. As well as a hairdressing salon, guests can also enjoy massage and cosmetic treatments in light-filled rooms with a sea view.
Sustainable products are used exclusively, produced by Vinoble, Hyapur, John Masters Organics and Nailberry. The “Inspired by nature” philosophy is also reflected in the vegan formulas and use of local produce with no chemical, or synthetic additives.
With views of natural wonders, take time out for yourself: the wellness deck
The approx. 100 m2 (1,076 ft2) fitness area is located next to the OCEAN SPA. With floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows and its own outdoor areas, nature is omnipresent here as well. While the ships cruise through the icy scenery of the polar regions of the Arctic and Antarctic, or through the warmer waters of the Amazon, or the South Seas, guests can stay active in these two areas.
State-of-the-art equipment is available, as well as a fitness studio with a glass front which can be fully opened out on to its own outdoor area. A fitness trainer is available to help guests use the equipment, as well as being on hand for personal training classes, in the gym, or for core training, Pilates and Antarctic sun salutation. The sports facilities on board are based on the three pillars of relaxation, balance and strength.
Right next to the fitness area is the spacious Sun Deck, with the pool area covering about 630 m2 (6,781 ft2). The flexible canopy means it can be used whatever the weather.
The new expedition class
On 13 April 2019, the HANSEATIC nature, the first of the three, new Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ expedition ships, will set sail on its maiden cruise. This ship is aimed exclusively at the German-speaking market. In October it will be followed by the launch of its international, bilingual sister ship, the HANSEATIC inspiration and then by the HANSEATIC spirit in 2021, which will also be aimed exclusively at the German-speaking market.
These small, first-class expedition ships featuring cutting-edge technology have the highest ice class for passenger ships (PC6). They can accommodate up to 230 guests, or 199 guests on Antarctic cruises. The almost identical ships raise the bar in the expedition cruise segment and feature numerous details and facilities that enhance the expedition experience even more. Retractable glass balconies on the Sun Deck give guests the feeling of hovering directly above the water and guests can stand on the foredeck of the ship to be closer to the action – even closer than the captain.
